Green Fingers to Green Backs!


Mike McGroarty started out as a humble gardener who had no
inkling about the hi-tech world of the internet. Today, he
runs his own website www.freeplants.com and earns millions
of dollars through it!

In fact he made an astounding $38,797.92 in just 90 days!

Mike's interest in plants and landscaping started when he
was in high school helping out at a plant nursery. His love
for plants seemed to translate into action as they
blossomed under his fingers.

Later, he got into a regular job where he read electric and
water meters. He wanted to make a bit of extra money and
started growing plants in his backyard.

He tried out many crazy ideas. But the only concrete one
was writing a small book on how to propagate landscape
plants. He ran up $4000 on his credit card and got it
published. He got publicity from neighborhood papers and
managed to sell enough to break even.

Now, he realized that he would need the internet to lower
his publishing costs and maximize his profits. But he had
no inkling about computers. However, he was determined to
make a success on the net.

He bought himself a computer and armed with a couple of
books on operating software started off on his own website.
He promoted the book and added a page on the small plants
he was selling. It was ready during the New Year holidays
of 1999 and he had to pay a monthly hosting fee of $34.99.

At that time, he could not even afford the fee and ended up
putting this on his credit card. He decided that if the
website flopped he'd make up the money by working evenings
doing landscape jobs.

The first 33 days he didn't make a penny. The 34th day he
sold three books, just enough to cover hosting costs. In
the following months he broke even too.

Then he created a little 25-page typed report about making
money growing small plants at home.  This started selling
like crazy at $19.95. The surprise factor was that
everybody who purchased the report also bought the book.

The next step was that he fattened the report with more
content, converted it to an e-book, and raised the price
to $39.99.  From then on there has been no looking back!

That's how Mike made $38,797.92 in 90 days with his
part-time business.

In the meantime, he also began growing plants in his
backyard. In spring 2003, he made $26,333.76 worth
of plants.

Not just that. He also made a series of homemade videotapes
about the backyard nursery business and offered them for
sale on his website and added another $9,308.58 to his
revenues. In just 90 days.

Today Mike gives away plants free to subscribers, of his
free newsletter, picking them at random. This delights the
receivers and as word spreads drive more traffic to
the site.

Mike strongly feels that the success of a business strongly
depends on the passion reflected in it.  He suggests that
hobbies make great topics for e-books as you can share from
experience. The other choice would be to research a topic
you think would sell and repackage it with a new twist.
However, fresh ideas and new concepts are always top of
the rung.

Mike has been very good at PR, networking with the
Newspapers around his hometown. Often, he has made
thousands of dollars after a report on him has been run in
one of them. A lesson for most of us.

So now, go ahead and create a business that will turn the
world green!

Get Their Interest. But You Don't Have To Fool Them!

My grandfather worked in a blacksmith shop when he
was a boy, and he used to tell me, when I was a little boy
myself, how he had toughened himself up so he could
stand the rigors of blacksmithing.

One story was how he had developed his arm and
shoulder muscles.  He said he would stand outside behind
the house and, with a 5 pound potato sack in each hand,
extend his arms straight out to his sides and hold
them there as long as he could.

After awhile he tried 10 pound potato sacks, then
50 pound potato sacks and finally he got to where he
could lift a 100 pound potato sack in each hand and hold
his arms straight out for more than a full minute!

Next, he started putting potatoes in the sacks.

Wow! I love this joke. Here he is leading us on to thinking
grandfather is quite a weight lifter, until the last line,
then he gives us the truth. A surprise wasn't it.

You know that's a good way of developing your marketing,
or of getting attention, or of capturing the attention of
others.

But it has a downside if you aren't real careful. You can
get their interest, but you don't have to fool them. If you
do, then make one hundred and ten percent sure you
are completely genuine and legitimate.

Folks will accept being played with if the fun leads to a
lesson or benefit. It backfires if it does not, for then
you make them look like the fool.

So, when using humor to attract attention, to make a sale
or to make a point, make sure there is a lesson or a truth
within the humor. Do not use humor at the expense of
anyone. Use it to teach.

Practical jokers are fun for about the first joke.
Thereafter they become boring fast. But a joke used to
progress conversation, where it is not a joke at anyone's
expense, can really make you an authority.

Consider that the storytellers are the ones who get their
point across. It has been that way for thousands of years.
If you want to make a point, put it in a story.

It is in the skillful weaving of that story that will bring
your prospect to the end you want him to see. So tell
stories.

But remember, Get Their Interest - - But You Don't
Have To Fool Them!
